Dear Parent/Guardian,
In order to assist you with communication with your child’s teacher, we have provided below the current telephone contact list for the school. Every teacher does not have a school phone so you may call the teacher in the grade to which your child belongs so that a message may be passed to your child’s teacher. Please avoid calling while classes are in session. If you must call during class time, please call the secretaries at the numbers provided or call the school directly at 949-3314.

A gift from the Cumbers
Mr. Mervyn Cumber, son of the late Sir John A. Cumber promised, at the renaming ceremony of the school in honourof his father, to provide a monetary incentive for the development of writing in the Year Six classes.
Last Monday, the PTA President received a cheque for CI$10,000.00 from Mr. Cumber. This money is to be used over the next ten years to fund a writing competition among our Year Six students. Three prizes, totalling $1,000.00 will be awarded each year; a first prize of $500.00, a second prize of$300.00 and a third prize of $200.00.
On behalf of the school and especially the students who will benefit directly from this generous gesture, I want to say a very big "Thank you" to Mr. Cumber and his family.

We have a new name!!
The name of our school is now officially the Sir John A. Cumber Primary school. The renaming ceremony took place on Thursday September 9th, 2010 during a ceremony held in the school hall in the presence of members of Sir John's family, the Premier, the Minister of Education the student body and other government and education department representatives.
The school hall was named in honour of the late Shirley Kidd, a former principal of this school who died while still in office. It will now be known as the Shirley Kidd Memorial Hall.

Update (September 3rd)
Dear Parent/Guardian,
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all back to school for the 20010/2011 school year. We have been so far blessed by a peaceful, trouble free beginning to the year and, with God’s grace, we pray that it will continue like this and indeed, get even better.
I want to extend a special welcome to our new parents. We are pleased to have you as the newest members of the John Cumber family. I trust that your association with the school will be a rewarding and enjoyable one for you and your children.
On that note, new parents are cordially invited to attend a special Meet and Greet night for NEW PARENTS only, next Monday, September 6, 2010 beginning at 6:00 PM in the Hall. Refreshments will be served.
We have had several changes at the school over the summer. Firstly, the Modulars have been temporarily relocated to the opposite side of the Infant playfield. This is to allow for the construction of a new suite of classrooms. Construction should begin within the next few weeks.
The expansion work on classrooms one through nine in the old block is finished. Our older children now have much more spacious classrooms in which to work.
The Computer room has been refurbished and all the desktops updated.
There have been several additions to our staff:
Mrs. Vera Williams is substituting for Mrs. Clark in Year One. Mrs. Clark is off on extended sick leave.
Mrs. Pamela Gayle joins us in Year Two to replace Mrs. Valrie Williams who has moved to Year Three; Mrs. Maylyn Beckford-Michelin and Ms. Jenive Franklin are our new Year Three teachers; Mrs. Winsome Wellington- Year 5 replacing Mr. Perrin who has now moved to Year 4; Mr. Flynn Bush, the new PE teacher replacing Mr. Wason and Ms. Rachel Klein, ICT teacher replacing Mr. Brendan Smith.
I know that you will give these new teachers a warm West Bay welcome.
Together for John Cumber.
J. Wallace
